Darwin 2011 Elsey National Park,Tennant Creek

Tuesday 7/6/11.Today we were up early for an early walk at a botanic walking track in Elsey National Park. Was quite chilly and the walk was short but good.Babbling brook and also took us through to the edge of the Roper River. Some nice scenic photos. The Hooded Parrot still eluded us so will have to see it next time? Had a lunch stop at the Highway Inn at Daly Waters. Shared lunch with some Apostle Birds, 2 Cuckoos and 2 Crows.Crows were the timid ones out of that group so probably following their football team's example. We are staying in a Caravan Park at Tennant Creek tonight and we had tea at the Red Rooster.Tennant Creek is looking very run down. Tomorrow we will stop off at The devil's marbles, or God's Marbles, as Ken Duncan calls them. I am with Ken. The devil did not create them, God did. We will then head to Alice Springs for the night. At one stage today in unlikely country we saw a very small turtle crossing the road. Also we saw a feral cat a long way from anything.White Cockies,White eared honey eaters and lots of Murray Magpies.(Magpie Larks to some people). They must be one of our most common and wide spread birds. Also some white egrets and cranes in a roadside billabong.Beautiful wattles for much of today's journey and some wildflowers and some blossoming eucalyptus.
